Best time of year to play golf in Southwest England

Southwest England plays year round, but the experience changes a lot depending on when you go, and pricing moves with it.

Late spring, May and June

The strongest window for most groups. Courses are in good condition, daylight runs long, and the peak summer crowds and pricing have not arrived yet. Book early, this period fills fastest.

Summer, July and August

Reliable weather and the longest days of the year, but also the busiest and most expensive months, especially in Cornwall and Devon where family holiday season overlaps with golf demand. Fine if dates are fixed, worth avoiding if flexibility is on your side.

Early autumn, September

A genuinely underrated month. Courses are still in strong condition, crowds thin out once school holidays end, and pricing softens noticeably from August. Often the best value window of the year.

Winter, November through February

Playable, especially in Dorset and Somerset where courses drain well, but wind and rain are more likely, particularly in Cornwall. Best suited to a group that genuinely does not mind the weather being part of the round, and wants the lowest prices of the year.
